Education as the Engine of Growth: Honouring Educators in Hapur

Educators and dignitaries felicitate awardees during the Guru Pranam 2025 ceremony in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh

Education is more than lessons and exams—it is the foundation of social change and economic growth. Across India, evidence shows that every additional year of schooling increases productivity, improves health, and enhances opportunities for individuals and communities. In districts like Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, where literacy levels are higher than the state average but gender gaps persist, the importance of strong educators and visionaries cannot be overstated.

In this spirit, the “Guru Pranam” ceremony held at the Saraswati Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Hapur, became not just a celebration of one institution but of the transformative power of education itself. At the event, Mrs. Ramya Ramachandran, Vice Chairperson, was honoured with the Best Educationist & Philanthropist Award 2025 for her commitment to advancing learning and community welfare.

Education and Growth: The Bigger Picture

Globally, education is closely tied to progress. A World Bank study shows that each additional year of schooling can raise a nation’s GDP growth rate by nearly 0.37%. In India, where over 260 million children are in school and 40 million in higher education, investing in teachers, infrastructure, and curriculum is directly linked to innovation, employability, and poverty reduction.

For districts like Hapur, education has already made a visible impact. According to census data, the literacy rate in Hapur city is about 74%, higher than the state average of 67%. Male literacy stands at nearly 81%, while female literacy, though improving, lags at around 66%. Closing this gender gap remains one of the biggest challenges—but also one of the biggest opportunities for growth. Studies consistently show that when women are educated, families are healthier, children stay in school longer, and local economies thrive.

Celebrating Teachers, Inspiring Communities

The Guru Pranam event brought together over 150 teachers and principals from 40 schools across Hapur. From DAV Public School to grassroots institutions like Saraswati Bal Mandir, the diversity of schools highlighted how education is not confined to urban centres—it is reaching villages and small towns too.

Chief Guest Mr. Shrichand Sharma, MLC (Teachers’ Constituency), summed it up well:

By honouring both leaders like Mrs. Ramachandran and frontline teachers, the event underscored that education is a collective effort—one that depends as much on vision and policy as it does on everyday classroom commitment.

Why Recognition Matters

Awards and ceremonies are not just symbolic. They help create role models for students, boost morale among teachers, and encourage the community to take pride in education. In places like Hapur, where aspirations are rising, such recognition can inspire more young people to pursue higher education, and more families to prioritise learning, especially for girls.

Looking Ahead: Education as a Catalyst for Local Growth

As India moves toward becoming a knowledge economy, the role of smaller districts becomes vital. Education can:

  • Increase employability: Equipping youth with skills for industries, healthcare, and digital jobs.
  • Promote equity: Bridging the gender gap and ensuring rural students are not left behind.
  • Strengthen communities: Literate citizens participate more actively in governance, healthcare, and social welfare.
  • Drive local development: Schools and colleges in districts like Hapur attract infrastructure, improve healthcare, and create a multiplier effect on the economy.

Events like Guru Pranam remind us that investing in education is investing in growth. Honouring teachers and leaders is not just a tribute—it is a recognition of the fact that the classroom is where the future of India is being written.
