India’s Women’s Premier League (WPL) has finally arrived, creating a buzz both locally yet globally. Get ready for India’s new T20 franchise league for women, where players will showcase their vocal skills on the field. Wait, Women’s IPL? Or something else? It’s the Women’s Premier League, also known as WPL.
Excited to know when and where the action is happening?
The league starts on March 4 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, with the first match featuring Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants. All the games will be held in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, both of which are part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Curious about the league format?
The round-robin stage involves five teams playing each other twice, resulting in 20 league matches and eight games per team. The team that finishes on top goes straight to the final, while the teams placed second and third battle it out in an eliminator for a chance to be the second finalist.
Wondering what time the matches will take place?
Most matches will begin at 7.30pm IST, except on double-header days, which start at 3.30pm. The WPL has four double-headers, much like the IPL.
Interested to know who owns the teams?
Three IPL team owners – Reliance (Mumbai Indians), the JSW and GMR group (Delhi Capitals), and Diageo (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – also bought teams in the WPL. Adani Sportsline purchased Ahmedabad-based Gujarat Giants, while Capri Global, a non-banking financial services company, acquired the Lucknow-based UP franchise, UP Warriorz.
Captaincy
And lastly, meet the five captains, consisting of two Indians and three Australians, who will lead their teams in the WPL. The five teams in the WPL will be led by five captains, consisting of two Indians and three Australians, who are set to showcase their leadership skills in the league.

At present, women can enter both grounds for free, while boys and men must purchase tickets starting at INR 100.
